“It is an interesting part of history that we have to capture before the window closes..”- Audrey Shamier

One of the questions I took from the Netherlands was the question of how the Indos have experienced their migration and reception abroad?

With Audrey there is a clear storyline to discover about her father who experienced discrimination and racism in the Netherlands and eventually left for Australia as a Marine and how Audrey herself also experienced discrimination in Queensland where she grew up at a young age.

On the day I went to see her in Townsville she came to pick me up and told me some history about the city and showed me the area including the highest point. She also told me about the situation with the aborigines and how she was involved in the city council and from her background brought in the perspective of living together with the aborigines.

She is a librarian of the police library, which mainly contains literature on history, crime and migration literature, which only concerns police officers in the city. To impart knowledge of the city. Very interesting to pay a visit there, which was also the location of this interview. Enjoy.

Hi, my name is Rick Shamier (Amsterdam, 1963). I came across this interview and blog by Audrey Shamier. And yes, looking at both our surnames, we must be related…. I suspect Audrey is the daughter of one of my fathers’s cousins. So we share the same opa.
I’d like to come in contact with Audrey. Can you help me?
